Are Video Resumes the Future of Job Applications?
In today’s competitive employment market, every job candidate wants to stand out from the crowd. According to a recent report from the U.S. Department of Labor there are about 6 unemployed workers competing for each job opening; the highest level since the bureau started tracking these figures nine years ago.
The competition is indeed fierce, but having a video resume might be what you need to gain that edge. The use of video resumes to apply for jobs has increased in popularity. Usually spanning one to three minutes long, video resumes allow job applicants to highlight certain skills, such as leadership, presentation, and creative abilities. Video resumes can help emphasize a candidates’ potential rather than their past work history. Making a video is easy, especially with the availability of affordable digital recorders and ability to spruce-up a video by including personalized logos, special effects, and background music.
In the popular CBS TV show, “How I Met Your Mother,” Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris), an opinionated, confident womanizer in his early thirties, creates a “how –to” video on creating an “awesome” video resume sure to get you the job your applying for.
“John Smith” created a DADO profile and wants to upload a video to highlight his accomplishments and let hiring managers know why they should hire him over his competition. Which video do you like better?
We encourage all of our candidates to create a video.

Bob Walmsley Reveals How Marketing Automation Helps Companies Adapt to Changing Buyer Behavior
Robert M. Walmsley is President and CEO of Tailwind Strategies. He’s spent over 20 years building high-tech sales and marketing teams. From achieving 3X revenue growth in 3 years to contributing sales leadership to a company ranked #1 on the Inc. 500 list as the fastest-growing company in America, Walmsley has the experience to show you how marketing automation can contribute to your company’s growth strategy.
Marketing and sales alignment has long been an issue easier to debate than to achieve. In this section of The Quintessential Marketing Automation Guidebook, Why Marketing Automation is a Must-Have for Every B2B VP of Sales, Bob Walmsley sheds light on the sales implications of the shift to buyer control.
In a buyer-controlled sales process, generic responses just won’t do the job. Walmsley validates the increased need for marketing and sales alignment based on the following:
Sales bottlenecks have moved up the funnel.
Your website is now the first sales call.
Shrinking attention spans demand faster response.
Traditional B2B sales cycles are out of sync with today’s buying process.
“…the discovery process has been reversed. It’s the buyer who’s doing the discovery now, not the seller, and typically they have more information. In fact, it’s not unusual for buyers to have read more information on the Web than the salesperson they’re speaking with.”
Walmsley makes the case for how marketing automation systems support the closed loop process that brings marketing and sales together. In fact, without it, sales cannot possibly gain the right visibility into the activity in the early buying stages or know how to respond with relevant, high-value information to address the prospect’s specific stage of the buying process.
The marketing-to-sales process has converged. Both sides need higher visibility and processes to meet buyers on their own turf based on insights from both ends of the buying cycle. Without this, companies are working blindfolded. However, by connecting marketing automation with CRM, your business can now generate that elusive 360 degree view of customer contact, necessary to do business in today’s digital business environment.
If you’d like to see your call connect rates improve from the typical rate in many industries of around 8% up to 40%, Walmsley provides insights to how marketing automation will connect your marketing and sales teams, enabling that outcome.

Last weekend, Treeline’s CEO, Dan Fantasia received a phone call from Gerhard Gschwandtner, the founder of Selling Power Magazine with news regarding a new live game show he was hosting and producing for Selling Power TV. The show, “Make that Sale!” would feature ten sales professionals competing in three real-life selling situations on live TV, and he wanted one of Treeline’s “dynamic” consultants to be on the show. Dan was more than happy to have one of Treeline’s consultants on the show, and within minutes he convinced Kathleen Mauriot, our Division Manager, to represent Treeline, as one of the best executive search firms in the nation.
The show took place yesterday, July 29th at the Renaissance Waterfront Hotel in Boston. The game show was made up of three different contests: (1) Share your most memorable sale. (2) Find accurate and complete contact information about a specific prospect using any Sales 2.0 technology within three-minutes and (3) deliver a winning one-minute elevator pitch. Kathleen was part of the second contest, so she had to use technology, such as LinkedIn and Jigsaw to get the contact information of a sales executive.
Kathleen’s charisma, out-going personality, and competitive nature shined as she navigated the web, completing the task in under three-minutes, and taking home the “gold,” or in this case, a new iPad. When asked whether she found the task to be difficult Kathleen said, “I use these applications everyday to track down the names of CEO’s, VP’s, sale manager’s, etc., so I didn’t find it too difficult, but I was still very nervous.” Kathleen did great and we are proud to have her on the Treeline Team!

DADO: a very functional and strong method for connecting two pieces of wood; when both pieces fit together snugly, the result is a “perfect fit”. Our innovative web based job search tool does just that: matches qualified candidates to a company’s hiring needs; ultimately, achieving a perfect match.
The idea is so simple; a company inputs information on the type of sales person they are looking for by means of filling out a questionnaire about their company and existing sales force. The result: their ideal candidate. Treeline has completely streamlined the entire recruiting process, saving our clients and candidates the frustration and hassle of combing through job boards, only to be disappointed.
For job seekers, by joining DADO you become part of a community of sales professionals and have the ability to demonstrate what makes you stand-out among countless others vying for the same positions. With a click of a button, your Treeline Consultant has increased your chances of getting noticed by potential employers.
Thousands of sales professionals have already joined DADO and our clients are already experiencing the benefits. DADO creates a clearer picture of who employers are hiring and a better understanding of how that person fits into their organization. A candidate’s profile includes a photo and video of their potential new hire and presents their sales stats, as well as references and their resume.
With the launch of DADO, we hope to have changed the way the recruiting industry does business.
Katie Johnson is Treeline, Inc’s Public Relations Representative. This was her second time completing the Boston Marathon. We are very proud to have her on the Treeline Team. Her determination, motivation, and competitive nature inspires us to work hard and strive to be the best executive sales search firm in the nation.
Katie finished the race in 5 hours 1 minute, with an 11 minute 28 second pace.
Katie’s motivation for running the Boston Marathon:
“I had a wonderful experience training for and completing the 2009 Boston Marathon as a member of Team Eye & Ear. Thank you again for helping me raise almost $6,000 for the Infirmary! These funds will help find treatments and cures for diseases of the retina.
During the spring and summer, I thought a lot about joining Team Eye & Ear again, but wasn’t 100% sure until I attended MEEI’s ‘Light Up the Night’ dinner in November. At this dinner, Drs. Evangelos S. Gragoudas and Joan W. Miller received the Reynolds Society Achievement Award in Research. It was their pioneering research that led to the first-ever treatment for the wet form of Macular Degeneration. These two doctors laid the foundation for subsequent successful treatments that have saved and restored the vision of more than a million people worldwide. Including mine. I made my decision that night. I am thrilled to be part of Team Eye & Ear once again.”
With about 14 million Sales Professionals in the United States, we want to know what motivates you to work hard and strive to be the best. Leave us a comment and let us know.
“In a precious few moments, what we say and do can be lasting…even life changing.”
Meet Marty, someone that went above and beyond his job and made a difference. He is an inspiration to all of us at Treeline and reminds us who we are and what we are striving for. Like the trailblazers quest to experience the rush and excitement of ‘climbing above the tree line,’ our ultimate goal is to climb to the top of our industry.
“It’s not your position in life that matters, but choosing to do what matters most in life that counts.”
At Treeline, our business model has always been unique and just a little bit different from other companies. We are purely a sales organization and our initiatives are not based on individual achievement like most organizations. Instead, our culture has been built around the mission of achieving one common goal through teamwork. Our goal is success.
We’re not trying to be average or even top tiered. We’re striving to be the best. Our common belief and passion has created a unique culture that is bursting with positive energy. Every voice is critical and every opinion is heard. Together we drive Treeline with hard work, high standards, personal initiative, and most importantly a work-life balance.
All Treeline employees happen to be former collegiate athletes. That being said, we are all competitive and that energy is often contagious. We often challenge each other inside and outside the office and this winter has been no different. Our office is located on the edge of Lake Quannapowitt in Wakefield and as of recently the lake has frozen over allowing for ice skaters to enjoy the beautiful view. Therefore, a few of us in the office decided to play a little game of pick up hockey during the lunch hour. Ever play pond hockey in a suit? Despite our afternoon meetings, we took to the ice for 2 on 2 action. Check out the clip below to see us in action! We all like to have fun and none of us like to lose. We are always looking for new members to bring their creativity and personality to join our team.
