How to Create a Video Resume

October 5th, 2010 by Amanda Musto, Social Media Marketing Representative at Treeline, Inc

In today’s job market, it is important to stand out from the crowd. At Treeline, we recognize the benefits of showcasing your personality and the need to market yourself to prospective employers.  That is why we created DADO.  Our platform gives you the ability to create a profile and in that profile is the capability to upload a video. A video exposes your personality, highlights, past accomplishments, and reveals professional endeavors.

Here’s how you get started:

1.       Anyone can make a video resume.

The only tools required are a webcam, camcorder, flip camera or even an iPhone or Droid phone. Simply record your video resume and upload it to your computer.  We recommend that you save in the most universal file formats including .wmv, .avi and .mpeg.  Other common file formats include .m4v, .mpg, .flv, .mov, .mp4, .3gs. We also recommend that you do not record in high definition.

2.       Keep it short and simple.

Ideally, 30 seconds is all you need to tell the hiring manager why you should get the job. Keep in mind that your body language, hand gestures, and eye contact can reveal more than words. Look into the camera and speak clearly. Practice what you are going to say ahead of time. Make sure there are no distractions, such as background noise and avoid busy backgrounds.

3.       Dress professionally.

Look the part of the job. Dress in business attire as if you were going to the interview and meeting the hiring manager in person. You only get one chance at a first impression so make it a great one.

4.       Introduce yourself, your position and one or two career highlights.

Start by mentioning your first and last name and your most recent position. Focus on your professional accomplishments. Use examples, such as statistics to reveal what you can do for the company that hires you.  Do not speak too fast and stay away from divulging personal information.

5.       Wrap up with a positive conclusion.

Thank the potential hiring manager for considering you for employment. Make sure to smile and keep eye contact with the camera.

When creating a video resume it is important not to be intimidated. If done correctly, a video resume will promote you and assist you with getting an interview. We believe that a video resume works most effectively in conjunction with your traditional resume. Our DADO profiles include your traditional resume, a video resume, a picture and LinkedIn profile. The video resume enhances your profile and grabs the hiring mangers attention, ultimately making you stand out from the crowd.

We welcome you to Join Our Network and create a Video Resume today!

DADO Video Helps Job Seekers Stand Out

August 4th, 2010 by Amanda Musto, Social Media Marketing Representative at Treeline, Inc

Are Video Resumes the Future of Job Applications?

In today’s competitive employment market, every job candidate wants to stand out from the crowd. According to a recent report from the U.S. Department of Labor there are about 6 unemployed workers competing for each job opening; the highest level since the bureau started tracking these figures nine years ago.

The competition is indeed fierce, but having a video resume might be what you need to gain that edge. The use of video resumes to apply for jobs has increased in popularity. Usually spanning one to three minutes long, video resumes allow job applicants to highlight certain skills, such as leadership, presentation, and creative abilities. Video resumes can help emphasize a candidates’ potential rather than their past work history. Making a video is easy, especially with the availability of affordable digital recorders and ability to spruce-up a video by including personalized logos, special effects, and background music.

In the popular CBS TV show, “How I Met Your Mother,” Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris), an opinionated, confident womanizer in his early thirties, creates a “how –to” video on creating an “awesome” video resume sure to get you the job your applying for.

“John Smith” created a DADO profile and wants to upload a video to highlight his accomplishments and let hiring managers know why they should hire him over his competition. Which video do you like better?

We encourage all of our candidates to create a video.

Click Here to create a DADO profile and upload a picture and video of yourself. Click Here if you have a DADO profile, but have not uploaded a picture and video of yourself .

Survey Uncovers Optimistic Hiring Trends…So Why Aren’t Companies Hiring?

July 15th, 2010 by Amanda Musto, Social Media Marketing Representative at Treeline, Inc

Ernst & Young recently conducted a survey examining corporate growth expectations over the next two years. The survey measured key economic and performance indicators among US companies with $500 million to $3 billion in total revenue.  The survey uncovered optimistic hiring trends.

  • 75% of senior executive indicate they are optimistic about achieving their companies’ growth expectations over the next two years.

According to the survey, companies that plan to grow also plan to hire over the next year.

  • 40% of the executives surveyed anticipate an increase in hiring over the next year.

The industries most likely to expect growth in both revenue and profits are:

  • Technology: 74% revenue and 72% profitability
  • Financial services: 69% revenue and $63% profitability
  • Retail/Wholesale: 69% revenue and $63% profitability

Senior executives indicate that they expect an increase in hiring due to “new growth” and a “return to pre-economic downturn levels.”

Among the companies looking to hire, the survey revealed the barriers that hiring mangers face. Only 8% of respondents indicated economic uncertainty as a barrier, while 22% said finding qualified candidates.

How can companies find qualified candidates?

Here at Treeline, we believe in “Recruiting 2.0.”  We have found that the traditional ways of hiring are out-dated. Resumes do not really tell a hiring manager who they are hiring and how they will be an asset to their organization. That is why we created DADO. Candidates ”Join Our Network” and answer targeted questions based on the key criteria hiring mangers want in their next top performer. A “DADO profile“ includes a candidate’s picture and video, LinkedIn profile, references, sales stats and resume.

We believe that we have streamlined the recruiting process. Try DADO and experience Recruiting 2.0!

May 11th, 2010 by Amanda Musto, Social Media Marketing Representative at Treeline, Inc

DADO: a very functional and strong method for connecting two pieces of wood; when both pieces fit together snugly, the result is a “perfect fit”. Our innovative web based job search tool does just that: matches qualified candidates to a company’s hiring needs; ultimately, achieving a perfect match.

The idea is so simple; a company inputs information on the type of sales person they are looking for by means of filling out a questionnaire about their company and existing sales force.   The result:  their ideal candidate. Treeline has completely streamlined the entire recruiting process, saving our clients and candidates the frustration and hassle of combing through job boards, only to be disappointed.

For job seekers, by joining DADO you become part of a community of sales professionals and have the ability to demonstrate what makes you stand-out among  countless others vying for the same positions. With a click of a button, your Treeline Consultant has increased your chances of getting noticed by potential employers.

Thousands of sales professionals have already joined DADO and our clients are already experiencing the benefits. DADO creates a clearer picture of who employers are hiring and a better understanding of how that person fits into their organization. A candidate’s profile includes a photo and video of their potential new hire and presents their sales stats, as well as references and their resume.

With the launch of DADO, we hope to have changed the way the recruiting industry does business.

Try it out, and let us know what you think!
