Share information about who's hiring with Sales Karma 2.0

More and more we are finding that the traditional job search is outdated in today's market. Companies do not use job boards like they once did, and don't publicly post all positions.

That makes information sharing more important than ever. As a community of sales professionals, we at Treeline are always looking for new ways to connect people. If we can communicate our experiences with each other, we will be a much more educated group. That is the idea behind Sales Karma 2.0.

The goal of Sales Karma 2.0 is to share information about who is hiring, so that everyone can get back to work. Participating is easy. Use this blog to let us know who you've interviewed with. Have you recently been offered a new position? Take a quick moment to share contact info from the leads or jobs you didn't want or didn't get. Pay it forward and over time it will pay you back!

Sharing your wisdom with others will not only make you a better sales person, but it may help you and others land that next sales role.*

*Please note that Sales Karma 2.0 is for sharing information only. It is not a forum for promoting your organization.

This is a great idea. I was on a job search for over three months. I enlisted the services of Treeline to supplement my search while utilizing my network. I was able to secure initial interviews with several companies. Some opportunities were attractive, some were not – but I went on any appointment that I could find in order to give myself a holistic perspective of the job market as it pertains to a professional like me. It's also good practice!

After a long search, I was able to secure an opportunity that is a great fit for my background and aspirations. Even though Treeline did not introduce me to my current position, they helped in my search by educating me on resume content, best practices for interviews, and potential pitfalls. In an effort to promote karma, I wanted to share an idea for job seekers.

Don't restrict yourself to the opportunities listed. If you come across an opportunity that seems like a partial fit, or possibly a stretch, but the company has a product or service you know and believe in - apply anyway. Too often, candidates look for a perfect match before applying. Some of my best interviews were with companies that had a position about to open that wasn't yet advertised. Those would not have resulted in interviews if I had never applied in the first place. Of course, we are obligated to be responsible with our credibility and people's time, so some judgment is necessary. However, when a company catches your eye, do some research and apply. You never know what could happen.

I'd like to share details on a specific opportunity for a sales professional at a well known engineering firm to implement software for integrated infrastructure modeling, but first need to ask if it's still in the plans. Check back for details.

Good luck in your search!

Thank you Chris. I really enjoyed working with you and want to wish you much success in 2009. I know we are both believers in karma and I hope this blog helps others in their search.

I have had the pleasure of working with David Stewart over at Treeline in the past. David is a hard worker and he brings a diligent, professional approach to representing both his candidates and clients. David was a great help in my job search last fall.

This blog is just another example of Treeline's commitment to delivering success to the people that they represent.

Im a lead generation inside sales representative. I can tell you that business is being done but you have to get infront front of your prospects before they plan thier 2010 budget and you have to build a business case for your product and/or service if what you offer is not in the 2009 budget plan.

I applied for my position as Regional Sales Manager for a mid sized US manufacturer of industrial products on their website. The job fit my description perfectly, was like a key in a lock! However the company did not contact me back and so after 2 weeks I received a call from a headhunter about this same position. He offered to try contacting the company and was successful and I got the job. So my employer is now out 20% of my first year's income just because they did not respond to my initial inquiry.

I think this blog is a great idea! I worked with Lauren Morneau(who is the best!) at Treeline and was able to land an outside sales position five months ago. I feel extremely lucky to have the job that I do and will post any opportunities that I come across. Best of luck!

My position is not working out....this is the first time in my life that I've not been happy with the sales position I've taken. I have been a sales mgr., account manager, and I know how to train rookies and raw talent into seasoned pros....if you have any ideas...they'd be appreciated.

Thanx---

Bob,

I am sorry to hear that. There is nothing worse than giving your all to an opportunity that just doesn't fit. What is it that you are unhappy with? I would be happy to share some insight.

I was laid off from my sales position back in october. I took the first job avaliable to me.It is at Triton technologies in Easton, Ma. While it is not a job I see myself in for the long term it has paid my bills while I search for a more long term oppurtunity. The job entails answering phones for infomercials, it is mainly commision. Average check is about $1500.00 before taxes and insurance(2weeks), While it is not my ideal job it does pay the bills. They are hiring currently. If you need some quick cash(training is about 4 days) this may be a way to go for you. Good Luck
